I'm pretty sure I've finished cataloging all the new children's literature, unless there are some stragglers I missed. Woohoo, happy dance! (And I bet I know someone else who'll like this news.) The batch I just finished had an awful lot of titles that fit the whole "LC doesn't do series tracing anymore" issue, so I had to do more record editing than usual. Even that didn't slow me down as much as it could have, though - I
love my new procedures!
Happy dance!
ReplyDeleteWhat does "LC doesn't do series tracing anymore" mean? I order next to none of series books (only a few YA ones).
We got some non-fiction books that were in a couple different series. I don't think you ordered them, but they're obviously children's non-fiction. LC had done the records, but they no longer trace series titles (meaning there's no controlled series access points in the records they create). Since other libraries hadn't fixed those records up yet, I fixed them up while editing them for our purposes.
ReplyDeleteAn example would be New York City's Central Park by Slavicek.
ReplyDeleteBtw, the series title you see in the default full view in the OPAC is not the controlled series title. I just remembered that this little problem is still on my "to fix, if possible" list...
ReplyDeleteMelissa, you know you are never gonna be done with the picture books - maybe just the ones I ordered before the break! I still have over half of my money left to spend!
